After over 52 years of achieving glorious freedom and leaders have changed; Malaysia is still the most renowned as a Muslim country with a Vision 2020, a country which is in the process of becoming a fully industriallized economy by the Year 2020.
The dream of Vision 2020 (Wawasan 2020) was the creation and vision of the 4th Prime Ministerof Malaysia, Tun Dr. MahathirMohamad (Prime Minister from 1981-2003). Tun Dr. MahathirMohamad is the author’s idol and is also known as ‘Malaysia’s Father of Modernization’ and ‘The Leader of Malaysia is Able (Malaysia Boleh)’ who has contributed a lot to Malaysia and its citizens.
Tun Dr. MahathirMohamad’s largest contribution to the country was when he did not hand over Malaysia to the IMF during the financial crisis in 1997 and 1998. Even though the pressure of the country’s politics which threatened the country’s leadership was much more transparent than the economic catastrophe, Tun Dr. Mahathir tenaciously put his foot down and did not relinquish Malaysia to the IMF. With his strategically calculated move, he successfully saved Malaysia from being ruled by the new economic colonialist super economic power known as the IMF.
The author has mentioned that Tun Dr. Mahathir is a highly respectable leader and is adored by the Malaysian citizens. He is the author’s idol because of his courage that persevered through the troubling times and his future oriented visions.
It cannot be said enough that Tun Dr. Mahathir has given a lot to the country and its fellow citizens. As a dynamic leader who possessed visions and missions in his mind, he was courageous to deal with any challenges being put before him which was enough to threaten the whole country beyond the 21st century. Until now, there has yet to be anyone in his equivalence making any drastic changes like he did for Malaysia today, which was what each and every resident of this country would have idolized to be.
The author’s inspiration to begin writing this book was since 2005, which was the second year after he migrated to one of the Middle Eastern countries, the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He resided in a world renowned city known as Dubai. The migration was meant to achieve business opportunities while learning the secrets of foreign investment policies and the reasoning behind Dubai’s success. The author was interested in researching the astounding policy of Dubai’s government. The support and encouragement from his aristocracy are one of the factors that have driven him to make this book a dream come true.
Even during this current economic crisis, there is a golden opportunity for Malaysia to adapt to changes that can convince the global world to put Malaysia on the map and make it their investment destination, hence giving Malaysia a boost of confidence and to enhance the image of the country which has deteriorated in the international level.
The most obvious one is that the author would like to revolutionize the focus of Malaysians from looking at the economic point of views from the political and social domestic issues to a drastic change which is to go back to the objective of the Vision 2020 to become a fully developed country by the year 2020. This is a dream that all of the Malaysians have envisioned since the beginning. This should be a guideline so that everyone is focused in making it a reality even before the year 2020.
